There is no WhatsApp GPT from OpenAI any more: its WhatsApp contact stopped answering on January 15, 2026. You can still use ChatGPT in its own app.
What happened to ChatGPT on WhatsApp
From December 2024 you could message ChatGPT on WhatsApp at 1-800-ChatGPT (+1 800 242 8478), with no app and no account. In October 2025 WhatsApp changed the terms of its business platform: a company whose main product is a general-purpose AI assistant can no longer offer it there.
OpenAI ended ChatGPT on WhatsApp on January 15, 2026. Microsoft Copilot left WhatsApp on the same date. Meta said the rule does not cover businesses that use AI to serve their own customers, such as a shop answering questions about orders or a clinic taking bookings.

Why did ChatGPT leave WhatsApp?
WhatsApp changed the terms of its business platform so that companies whose main product is a general-purpose AI assistant can no longer offer it there. OpenAI, Microsoft Copilot and others ended their WhatsApp chatbots as a result. Businesses that use AI to serve their own customers are still allowed.
Does OpenAI have a WhatsApp number now?
No. OpenAI no longer runs any WhatsApp number, so an OpenAI WhatsApp contact you find today is not from OpenAI.
How do I use ChatGPT now?
Use the ChatGPT app on iPhone, Android, Mac or Windows, or chatgpt.com in a browser. If you linked your ChatGPT account to the WhatsApp contact before the cutoff, those past chats are in your ChatGPT history.
Is there a GPT chatbot built into WhatsApp?
WhatsApp has Meta AI built in. It is Meta’s own assistant, not ChatGPT, and you open it from the Meta AI button or a chat in the app.
Are the "ChatGPT WhatsApp bot" numbers I see online real?
Not from OpenAI. Any number claiming to be ChatGPT on WhatsApp today is run by someone else. Do not send it passwords, payment details or private files, and check who runs it and what they do with your messages before you use it.
